Congratulations!

You have shown you are able to identify a geek based on conversational topics. Now that you can spot a geek, let's discuss reasons for hiring a geek.

Reasons for hiring a Geek

To my potential employers at Mission Federal Credit Union:
I have posted the geek tutorial online as an admission of the sad truth that I have spent too long in front of a computer screen. I hope its humor, fun, and creativity come through louder than its uselessness in the kind of environment where I'd like to work.

In total I've spent about an hour developing it, which is perhaps longer than I needed to spend, but it sort of took on a fun life of its own. My original intent was not to work on classifying geeks or categorizing people. I left the interview wishing I had been able to showcase some of my talents not just as a graphic or instructional designer, but in being far enough on the edge of technology to implement the relatively new technologies found in Moodle and Wiki, which were the original focus of the sample lesson.

In the end, I went with a mock-training session using geeks as content to show that I am capable of clarifying objectives and designing engaging training materials using a variety of development tools no matter what the content. I hope you give this geek a chance to join your team.

Additional information about my experience designing instructional materials, games and simulations can be found in the links to the right. I have posted a few additional samples of layout and design in the box below.

After making job aids for my 540 class, I realized the IML lab where I work needed job aids, too. Signs for Mac and PC computers are hanging in the lab. I did the "IML" logo for the instructional media lab as well as the various signs for printing and lab rules in Illustrator.

As a classroom teacher, I used Illustrator to design for my classroom. As I got a reputation for designing logos and doing layout, I was asked to create print flyers for the Teacher's Alliance, a summer camp held annually in Taiwan.

I've submitted just a few examples of my work here. I would be more than willing to show my full portfolio if you feel you'd like to see more print designs.

I thank you for your consideration,
