English as a Foreign Language
I taught English as a Foreign Language from 1997 - 2002. My favorite part of teaching was developing materials for my classes. A few of my favorites are showcased below.
- Easy Spelling- This spelling book was published for early elementary school students in three grade levels.
- Sticker Dictionary- This is a constructivist language learning exercise where students group vocabulary words topically. They construct their own picture dictionary over the course of the school year.
- Firecracker Phonics- an unpublished book that teaches letter recognition and reading skills to pre-kindergarten beginners.
- Survival English- A series of classroom signs designed to help students with common phrases. These samples come from an entire collection of classroom artwork.
- Pronunciation Guides- help adult learners think reflectively about the mechanisms used in speech like points of articulation, and speech.
The context each of these projects is described in more detail in the information on my time in Taiwan.
